Not confined to the traditional white color, world stars always know how to stand out when going against the classic style often seen on big holidays.
10 stars say no to white wedding dresses
In fact, white wedding dresses are inherently more of a trend than a tradition or concept. This trend started when Queen Victoria of England married Prince Albert in 1840. It is said to be fashionable and “timeless”. However, in the late 60s , Hollywood stars – Elizabeth Taylor surprised the public when going from one aisle to another with colorful wedding dresses throughout her eight weddings. Later, prominent names such as: Gwen Stefani, Dita Von Teese, Keira Knightley , Emily Ratajkowski, etc. also became proof that brides will always shine no matter what color they wear.
More than half of her eight marriages, Elizabeth Taylor did not choose a pure white wedding dress. In 1964, at her wedding to her Cleopatra co-star – Richard Burton, the actress donned a yellow marigold dress with feminine, flowing sleeves. This design is also a creation of Cleopatra ‘s costume designer, Irene Sharaff. Instead of an engagement ring, the couple’s defining item was a Bulgari brooch studded with diamonds and emeralds.
Legendary star Cilla Black with a red mini dress has become an icon of contemporary fashion history in the 60s. The dress is designed with luxurious velvet material combined with lace tights and dolly shoes that helped. The singer and TV presenter showed off her unique personality on her wedding day with husband Bobby Willis. The perfect highlight for the main shape is the wedding bouquet with colorful poppy flowers.
Carrie Bradshaw likes “vanity” but Sarah Jessica Parker is the complete opposite. The Sex and the City actress randomly bought a black dress (not even a wedding dress) from the brand Morgane Le Fay because she was too shy to try on wedding clothes. Despite her bad luck, her marriage to husband Matthew Broderick is still strong after 25 years of being together.
At her August 2003 wedding to director Bart Freundlich, Jullianne Moore appeared beautiful in a mauve Prada gown . Simple, delicate design in silk fabric with a V-neck, slightly twisted at the chest is not much different from a classic slip dress .
In 2005, the famous actress and model Dita Von Teese shared a house with rock singer Marilyn Manson. “Queen of Burlesque” attracted attention when appearing with a purple wedding dress with bold aristocracy. Vivienne Westwood ‘s waist and bust dress is easily recognizable. Pair it with a Mr Pearl corset , a Stephen Jones hat and Christian Louboutin shoes.
In 2013, in a small town in the south of France, the wedding of the “English rose” with male singer James Righton took place simply from the ceremony to the wedding dress. Keira Knightley opted for a strapless, gray CHANEL ballet skirt design , soft loafers, and loose hair, with just a simple loop on her head. With this design, she looks extremely young, dynamic and stylish in the wedding ceremony.
In 2013, the star of the movie 90210 – Shenae Grimmes married her boyfriend Josh Beech in the United Kingdom. She surprised fans when choosing a black wedding dress from Vera Wang’s Fall 2012 collection. The end of the skirt is made up of many layers of thin chiffon fabric with a floating effect like a smoke.
Another bride who decided to stay away from the traditional white color is Piper Perabo. Instead, she literally “shined” in a shimmering metallic Michael Kors gown. Actress Coyote Ugly looked like she stepped out of mythology when combining the outfit with a yellow veil and a luxurious bouquet of nude roses.
Beautiful and seductive Mandy Moore in her second wedding with musician Taylor Goldsmith in 2018. She wore a pink layered and turtleneck Rodarte dress from designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte brand. When asked why she didn’t wear a white dress, she told People: “I felt like I couldn’t be myself . ”
Talking about the breakthrough in wedding dresses, the name Emily Ratajkowski cannot be ignored. Contrary to all the usual splendor and grace of the bride at a wedding, the former Victoria’s Secret angel chose a mustard yellow suit with a wide-brimmed black hat from the brand ZARA.
Emily Ratajkowski said: ‘I never liked the idea of wearing white to a wedding because I’m not a pure woman. I am a brave, experienced and practical woman. When I went to City Hall to register my marriage, this suit made me feel equal and accomplished like I was signing a business contract. I was going to wear red at first.”
