All you need to know about Gucci’s new creative director
After many speculations about the next owner of the power chair, Gucci and Kering Group have officially announced the bright name for the new Creative Director position is Sabato De Sarno. Does a question arise whether Sabato De Sarno can bring a youthful and luxurious Gucci like the way the Italian fashion house expects? His previous challenge was to overcome the rebellious and profound imprints that Alessandro Michele had left on the public mind. That will be revealed when Sabato De Sarno will present the first collection at Milan Fashion Week in September.
Born in Naples, Italy, Sabato De Sarno has a burning love for fashion and started her career in 2005. After accumulating experience at famous brands like Prada and Dolce & Gabbana, the Italian designer marked a career milestone when he joined Valentino in 2009. Like Alessandro Michele who was a member of Frida Giannini’s team, Sabato De Sarno is Pierpaolo Piccioli’s right-hand man, and “He brings with him a wealth of knowledge and a wealth of experience,” said Marco Bizzarri, President and CEO of Gucci.
The Creative Director is an influential position in the luxury fashion industry. Not only taking on the design role, but Creative Directors are also responsible for defining the brand’s vision and direction. François-Henri Pinault, President and CEO of Kering said:
“UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF SABATO DE SARNO, WE ARE CONFIDENT THAT GUCCI WILL CONTINUE TO INFLUENCE FASHION AND CULTURE THROUGH ITS PRODUCTS AND COLLECTIONS WHILE DELIVERING LUXURY FROM AN EXCLUSIVE PERSPECTIVE. IMBUED WITH CONTEMPORARY SPIRIT”.
Not a famous name, Sabato De Sarno promises to be a breakthrough factor with a talent honed by practical experience. Sabato De Sarno said: “I am extremely honored to take on the role of Creative Director of Gucci. I am proud to be part of a long history of development and an extraordinary legacy of cherished values that I have believed in for many years. I am deeply moved and happy to contribute my creative vision to the brand.”
