2022 marks the 40th anniversary of the Air Force 1 line of shoes , so Nike has planned to launch a series of limited editions of this shoe this year. Among them, one of the versions that sneakerheads are eyeing is the Louis Vuitton and Nike Air Force 1 models, which were teased through the Louis Vuitton Men Spring Summer 2022 show.

However, only those with the most money can bring them home. Because the value of a pair of these shoes has now surpassed the threshold of tens of thousands of US dollars on the Sotheby’s auction floor.

The familiar silhouette of the Nike Air Force 1 sneakers served as the foundation for this limited-edition sneaker. Virgil Abloh combines a casual foundation from Nike with luxurious details from Louis Vuitton.

The shoe upper is made of leather printed with Louis Vuitton’s famous monogram . Nike’s Swoosh logo is covered with Louis Vuitton’s Damier motif. The sole is printed with the word “AIR”, and the shoelaces have the word “LACET”, following the familiar design style of Virgil Abloh.

It is known that the monogram combination with Damier motifs is limited to only 200 special pairs, called Pilot Case. Each sneaker in this rare batch comes with its own special display case.

When Virgil Abloh died suddenly of cancer in November 2021, all the products he designed received a surge of interest. So are the Louis Vuitton and Nike Air Force 1 Pilot Case sneakers. The sneaker is a combination of two big men, produced only 200 pairs, made by a late designer, what could be hotter?

In response to the anticipation of the fans for this limited edition handshake, Louis Vuitton decided to give all 200 pairs of sneakers to Sotheby’s for auction, instead of just opening for sale as usual. All revenue will be donated to the fashion scholarship fund established by Virgil Abloh.

The Louis Vuitton and Nike Air Force 1 Pilot Case models have a starting price of $2,000 when they go on sale on Sotheby’s on January 26, 2022. When the auction ended on February 8, the value of these shoes exceeded tens of thousands of US dollars. The lowest is 40,000 USD/pair. The highest is 220,000 USD for size 5 pair!

It can be said that collectors have considered these shoes to be the equivalent of a work of art to invest in. In the future, perhaps these shoes will appear in museums, in exhibitions about Louis Vuitton, Nike or Virgil Abloh, instead of just being worn for walking.

Rumor has it, Louis Vuitton is expected to open the normal version by the end of this year. Of course, the normal version does not come with a special box. And let’s hope their prices don’t cross the five-figure mark in dollars!
