As a matter of fact I have family members myself who don’t speak Spanish because they were born and raised here and never bothered to learn. air mail to my granddaughter love your grandma blanket That doesn’t offend me in any way shape or form. But what does offend me greatly and is my only point, is human beings being told not to speak their native language because others don’t understand what their saying. Again let me reiterate, a private conversation between people is just that; Private and no one has the right to dictate what language it should be spoken in. I agree it is beneficial to speak and understand English in this country in order to better communicate but speaking your native language is your right and should not be disrespected by anyone.
BTW in Latin countries and for sure in my island of Puerto Rico, those who provide a service to American tourists do make a very strong effort to learn and understand the English language, in order to better communicate with the Americans who visit their homeland. I would never expect anyone to learn anything they choose not to, but I also don’t expect them to tell me what I should learn to appease them. It works both ways in this Country you should speak English if you are a citizen. You are suppose to learn English. You should think about going back to where the people speak your beautiful Spanish. I never said or implied that anyone seeking employment must speak Spanish. I would never agree with that. If you could understand what my comment meant, is that certain companies and/or agencies hire bilingual workers because of the population they serve.
