Could not have said it better myself. Hate the high and low functioning labels. She got me beat 6-7 on mental disabilities but fortunately i was able to get diagnosed at 7 because my second grade teacher thought I had ADHD and told my mom to get me tested and i left my psychoanalytic testing diagnosed with ADHD and Autism. School immediately tried to put me in behavioral classroom after that and when my mom refused they got the board of ed. involved which caused chaos Groot autism awareness full over print shirt but at the end of the day I raised the school’s EOG average by getting perfect scores 4 years in a row but was still treated as the shy dumb kid till middle school then i was the trouble making smartypants.

I feel like masking applies to other disabilities as well. I’m deaf and often find myself playing off of how other people communicate rather than communicating in a way that supports my needs. My lil cousin has autism. Hes almost 8 and still cant make out two words. Just like 5 words that he knows basic mama and bye bye. Nothing is helping and we have tried seeing several doctors. I’m not saying it’s not hard, but my daughter at 22, can’t express herself, doesn’t understand consequences of choices, can’t make serious choices, can’t work on the real world without serious supports. She could never have explained autism, let alone made a video of it.
