Star quarterback Matthew Stafford of the Los Angeles Rams is indicating that his contract should be adjusted. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network Insider claims that Stafford desires increased guaranteed compensation after the 2024 campaign. Even though the seasoned quarterback has shown up for voluntary sessions, this could be a source of conflict for the Rams this offseason.
Entering his 16th NFL season, Stafford, 36, is an experienced player who has won four Super Bowl LVI championships with the squad he captained. Though he signed a four-year, $160 million deal in 2022, this year’s compensation guarantees amount to just $31 million. There is no money promised for the latter two seasons. It makes sense that Stafford wants more stable finances in the long run.
Stafford is well known for his tenacity; his record of never missing a Detroit Lions game from 2011 to 2018 says it all. Over the previous two seasons, he has missed 10 games due to injuries, though.
Even with those losses, Stafford’s arm is still very strong. In 15 games last year, he amassed 3,965 yards and 24 touchdowns, regularly dazzling the crowd with his spectacular throws.
Rams general manager Les Snead has another important task on his schedule as the 2024 NFL Draft draws to a close: handling the contract of his star quarterback.
