It’s incredibly selfish of humans that we debate whether climate change is real when we are ruining the lives of not only other people but of wildlife as well. Currently, I believe that climate

unfortunately, stems from the significant amounts of misinformation coming from the political left. Furthermore, I believe that humans are probably incapable of enacting sufficient political change to combat climate change, and thus we must depend on technological advancements to make up for our shortfalls. On a related note, I feel that there is a tragic rift between the scientificactivist communities and businesspolitical institutions. The former too often seem content with shouting, like hippies at Woodstock, but do not seem to understand that to make a real difference they must make a case for why stopping climate change is an economically sound decision. On the other hand, the latter seem content with burying their face in the sand. I sincerely believe that this rift must be mended for any real progress to take place. I believe that climate change is a very relevant issue. I have always wondering why it was such a debated issue – I alway thought it was real, extremely important, and very pressing. I think it is very irresponsible for people to discredit climate change with no real evidence. It is such an urgent issue and I believe that everyone should be on board to help curb climate change. If everyone puts watermelon christmas in july christmas tree summer christmas shirt skepticism, politics, and other problems aside, we can work together to improve our environment and its deteriorating state. People need to take responsibility and realize that their actions are affecting everyone and our entire world. Last year I took a technical writing course which focused primarily on how to mitigate or prevent climate change. The takeaway I had from that class is that on our current route, we are doomed. The earth is on a crash course to a global temperature rise of over degrees Celsius. This may not sound like a lot, but this can have catastrophic effects on marine and arctic wild life, which will contribute to a mass extinction of oceanic wildlife, as well as a considerable rise in sea levels, swallowing up large portions of coastal land.
Once it gets this bad, there is likely no reversing it, and humanity will have to deal with all of the new problems this new world entails. A lot of what is holding progress back is corporate greed, as oil and fossil fuel businesses must pay for incredibly costly renovations to lower their pollution, using techniques such as carbon capture and storage . Even if they were to pay for these costly renovations, CCS has been proven to not stop climate change, so these businesses will still need to be phased out in favor of more green alternatives. Therefore, businesses and politics have partnered up to ignore the scientific facts and deceive the public by declaring that climate change is but a farce. Even if they do choose to recognize climate change, they usually subdue the uneducated masses by claiming that they have their pollution “under control”, which is usually enough proof for people looking to confirm their own bias. My feelings on climate change are ones of fear and powerlessness. Looking at the data I believe that it’s very clear that climate change not only exists but will become a very real problem during our lifetime. The climate affects every part of the world, and by having even small changes such as an increase in temperature by a few degrees we’re going to change the world in completely unexpected and likely unwanted ways. Unfortunately, I feel that as an individual I can do very little to prevent climate change from taking place. We need to get legislation to make changes in our country and across the world if we want to have a chance of preserving the world as we know it. Climate change is scary as hell, and what’s worse is that it doesn’t seem to be prioritized on a personal and global scale. Yes, there are initiatives and organizations formed to tackle climate change, but I don’t think it is enough, especially for such drastic changes that our Earth continues to go through. I used to think that a rapidly changing environment was normal and bound to occur in cycles. Yet, the dying species and rise in toxic emissions since industrialization clearly indicate that humans are the problem. I very passionately believe that climate change is real and that the scientific evidence is irrefutable. It angers me that a lot of the political debate going on around climate change is focused on whether or not it is real as opposed to what can be done about it. It also creates a lot of fear thinking that the extreme weather conditions that humans are now experiencing are, in part, due to these human-caused changes in the environment and
