Wearing surgical or home made masks do not prevent viruses from getting to the wearer NFL baltimore ravens logo filter activated carbon face mask Instead of a sheet of paper towel, putting in a panty liner or thin menstrual pad is ever better, plastic liner side facing out of course. Make sure mask fit close up to face over nose and under eye and goes under the chin. There should be no opening around edges. Even if you put the plastic liner out it’s still there. I just threw it out there for those who want to give it a try since some nurse friends passed it on to me. I can’t explain exactly how the air gets in but suspect it seeps in from the material around the liner and the liner is not tight to the face. Don’t forget, you can cut them down to fit your mask/face, too. Stay safe and be well. Good point, Judy, and you are right. They do have a thin plastic liner though the cotton pad itself faces your mouth and if your mask is not tight against the front but pleated, pliable and makes a sort of cup shape it works pretty good.
