When it comes to Dior, we often think of a feminine and meek style. But in Spring Summer 2022, creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri chose a strong Pop Art color play.

Pop Art took the throne in the 1960s. And Dior, inspired by this decade for its Spring Summer 2022 collection, also applied the Pop Art trend to accessories such as silk scarves and handbags. this season.

The French fashion house has teamed up with Italian contemporary artist Pietro Ruffo to create exclusive prints. This is not the first time Dior has collaborated with this artist, but compared to previous paintings, this seems to be the simplest painting he has ever designed for the French fashion house.

The name of the collection, D-Jungle Pop , depicts a tropical jungle by Dior in Pop Art colors. True to the name, images of zebra, butterfly, and lion are the three mascots chosen by Dior as motifs for products.

Towel patterns use a color block style palette . Color block was both a popular color scheme in the Pop Art movement of the 1960s. But it is also a color play that matches the Y2K style that is making a big comeback in 2022. A medium color play retro, just in line with the latest fashion trends.

All three D-Jungle Pop silk scarves use silk with a twill weave style. The twill weave is a type of silk often chosen by luxury French fashion houses to make scarves. With this weave, the scarves are somewhat thick, not too glossy, so they don’t look dull.

Dior’s Spring Summer 2022 D-Jungle silk scarves have a simple design that looks simple at first glance, but is actually elaborately crafted. The high-end look of the towel comes from the unsmeared printing lines thanks to the sharp screen print technology. First, the designs were drawn in detail by Pietro Ruffo on the machine and created for prints.

After the prints are prepared, the color printing will begin on the silk fabrics. The complexity lies in this paragraph frame.

Each printing frame in the printing process functions as a filter. Each color on the silk scarf will have a different printed frame. That means only one color can be printed onto the silk fabric at a time.

Therefore, if a scarf has 28 colors, it will be printed 28 different times, using specialized ink for screen printing. This printing process is a feat because it takes a long time to make, making each Dior silk scarf so precious.

According to Dior’s share, in the past, in Europe, there were up to 100 companies producing printing frames for this silkscreen printing technique. But in recent years, that number has only been around 4 or 5. Persevering with silkscreen printing is a way for Dior to maintain and nurture this tradition.

After the prints have been completed, the silk is cut and hand-rolled to create the precious Dior scarves.
