Coming to ELLE Fashion Show 2022, Music Director Thanh Chu – who has collaborated with great artists such as Quoc Trung, Thanh Lam, Ha Tran, and indie artists such as Vu, Lon Xon band… – had frank and interesting sharing around the work of creating inspirational sounds, helping designers to tell their full stories in fashion.
What words will you choose to describe the music in ELLE Fashion Show 2022?
I think it’s diverse and borderless. The music in the ELLE Fashion Show 2022 breaks free from the framing of genres to create the strongest emotional release.
The boundaries between genres of music were also blurred when I collaborated with four designers. If designer Le Thuy Giang (SUBTLE LE NGUYEN) is soft, emotional melodies, using many organic instruments and subtly hidden beats, Cuong Dam (Chats by CDAM) is attractive. , many angular and interwoven rhythms. Meanwhile, the music of designer Ngo Hoang Kha (KHAAR) evokes spatial reproduction, variable tempo and high tech. And Tom Trandt (HANOI) has a style of adventure, discovery, and leadership.
In addition, director Cao Trung Hieu and I also brought ethnic influences such as zither and zither into the music production for ELLE Fashion Show 2022. However, all the national imprints are hidden. skillfully, creating a transparent underground flow.
In particular, the music in this ELLE Fashion Show 2022 is also heavily moving with alternating parity layers, hidden and shown, and everything is carefully refined. Besides, the use of music is also reminiscent of visual art installations and a little bit of math. Therefore, the two elements of science and art will go hand in hand throughout, creating a uniqueness.
Four designers are different pieces, placed in a fashion show throughout. Do you have any obstacles to highlighting the individuality of each person but still creating a unified block for the program?
A big advantage that I have is that the four designers are all very young and contemporary. That open-mindedness makes it easier for me to catch the waves because I don’t want to repeat the familiar sounds that have become the formula in previous fashion shows.
The main obstacle is at a glance, the designers seem to have the same personality but in fact, they have a sharp contrast. Therefore, music designed specifically and inspired by 4 designers must still blend in the panoramic view of the ELLE Fashion Show 2022, not a series of discrete pieces.
In addition, the arrangement of musical materials was also calculated based on the overall performance of the show, and that was possible thanks to the support from director Cao Trung Hieu.
In your opinion, is there any difference in the music production of domestic fashion shows and international catwalks?
According to personal experience, I feel that domestic fashion shows are still interesting and stick to the basic rhythm and breathing. Models on the catwalk still need that.
But now, I’m very happy when designers, and general directors start to break the above rules. The music in the domestic fashion catwalk is no longer pragmatic melodies just for the purpose of letting models strut on the catwalk, but it has brought the personal color of the collection and clearly expressed the style and personality. designer’s emotions.
