change is real and an urgent problem, but I think I often try to avoid learning too much about it. I know I have currently prioritized other socialpolitical issues in my life and I’m worried that if I am too aware of climate change problems, I will cause myself extra strife if I also feel I don’t have the time or influence to do anything about it. I know this isn’t the right way to approach things, so I’m hoping this class will both teach me more about the issues and give me avenues to act on them so that I won’t feel as helpless. Im a climate change skeptic. I read this guy who talks about global warming quite a bit. Hes no scientist. Hes just smart. He talks a lot about how scientists adjust global temperatures. He talks about the lack of controlled study to show that, as carbon in the atmosphere increases, so does temperature. He cant find an example of a replicable study american cairn terrier usa flag 4th of july happy independence day shirt where carbon ppi was modified directly to record some kind of change in temperature. He talks about the secrecy around studies that supposedly prove climate change; how those methods arent public. I believe that climate change is the largest threat to the human population. The decision by President Trump to completely ignore the severity of this issue is, in my opinion, an attack on the American people. The science is conclusive and the effects of climate change are starting to be felt. If we don’t have strong leaders step up to ht this battle then we will pass the infamous tipping points that spell out doom for our civilization. Preventative medicine is the most efficient use of resources in the medical field and the same principles need to be adopted in respect to our carbon footprint.
The time to switch to renewable energy sources was yesterday. At this point displaying dissatisfaction at the voting booth is the only way to change the country as a whole The first time I think I really listened and learned about exactly whats happening to our earth in terms of climate change was senior year of high school, when I took an AP environment course. After watching the documentary ‘Cowspiracy’ I finally had that “oh shit” moment where I realized we really have dug ourselves a hole we might not have the capacity to get out of. While I admittedly don’t act as much of an activist for the earth besides not eating meat and yelling at my mom for using plastic utensils, I am certainly aware that at our current rate and with the current lack of administration pushing for better laws concerning environmental preservation, climate change is rapidly overtaking our ability to save our earth. There’s nothing that frustrates me more than to see crooked politicians tweet about how climate change is “fake news”, and I hope with the catastrophes striking all around us, we are able to collectively see beyond our own stupidity and start making large and venerable steps toward combating climate change. Currently, I believe that climate change is both inevitable and irrevocable. While measures such as the Strategic Technology Energy Plan have been implemented to curb the calamitous effects of climate change – floods and droughts, food shortages, erratic weather patterns – use of fossil fuels will continue to act as an impediment to change. Slow implementation of alternative energies and current trends in consumer behavior will continue to drive the globe’s carbon footprint. With the government waning on their commitment to improve the environment, as exemplified by President Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris Accord, it will be up to external organizations, such as universities, to begin changing the current trajectory. Personally, I feel climate change is the most consequential challenge of our time. Climate change threatens our very existence, and it will come to define not only our generation, but our species. This being said, it is truly unfortunate that the topic of climate change has in many cases been relegated to nothing more than a talking point. One does not have to look far to find the topic of climate change being used to earn political points. It has been proven that climate change is indeed real, but skeptics continue to hinder progress in reversing climate change. However, considering the way things are going, it is likely that these skeptics will regret there unwillingness to ht change in the coming decades. The first emotion that comes to my mind when I think of climate change it frustration. Although it is a large problem that seems impossible to fix, humans do have the capabilities to stop further damage and even reverse damage if they chose to do so collectively. My frustration stems from the “if” part
