While measures such as the Strategic Technology Energy Plan have been implemented to curb the calamitous effects of climate change – floods and droughts, food shortages, erratic weather patterns – use of fossil fuels will continue to act as an impediment to change. Slow implementation of alternative energies and current trends in consumer behavior will continue to drive the globe’s carbon footprint. With the government waning on their commitment to improve the environment, as exemplified by President Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris Accord, it will be up to external organizations, such as universities, to begin changing the current trajectory. It has been proven that climate change is indeed real, but skeptics continue to hinder progress in reversing climate change.
