internationally, to take collective actions to protect Earth and institute a more sustainable system for human life. The world has a responsibility to take action. On a personal level, I try to do my part by conserving energy as much as I can, I’m a vegetarian, I recycle, and I VOTE. I believe it is so important to vote and get the right people elected because they determine the future of our lives and planet. In my personal opinion, in terms of environmental issues, people in political power are financially backed by coal and oil industries that hire scientists to try and find proof for the public that climate change isn’t real or isn’t a threat. This deeply saddens me and I feel that one of the biggest solutions is to be proactive in mitigating factors contributing to climate change. People need to be educated on the topic and use their voice to vote! I believe climate change is the defining moment, scientifically speaking, for this generation. We often overlook the negative aspects of living in a world that is so technologically defined. Consequently, we take the home we have , for granted. With the election, it has become crystal clear that the government won’t act on something that can one day make the very planet we live on uninhabitable. And our country’s withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accord further fire wife life firefighter’s wife 4th of july messy bun shirt cements the joke of a president we have to deal with for years. However, I believe that there are things we can do to change this. Voting will let us choose a leader that actually has a brain and is the furthest person from . Moreover, we need to make micro changes in our life style to affect the world on a global scale. With my current knowledge of climate change, I am astonished to see how little has been done in the past few years to help this planet. Without quick action to help this planet, we are destined for failure due to our greedy tendencies and slow ability to change for the good of the planet. People often take the earth for granted and wait until the last minute to do something. As someone who’s always appreciated nature and detested the sight of chopped trees, smog-filled skies, and ocean deposits of plastic, I am naturally quite frustrated with the issue of climate change, especially considering that we really do have the ability to stop it if enough of the population were willing. The problem, of course, is that not enough of the population is willing to do so, which I find rather ridiculous given that the destruction of your own planet should give anyone the motivation necessary to tackle the problem. The fact that some people would try denying the existence of climate change is even more infuriating, and almost laughable with all the incontrovertible evidence that’s been accumulated on the rise and cause of climate change; and while I’ll continue contributing to the movement against climate change, it’s demoralizing to see how stubbornly unwilling some people are to do the same. We are quite literally killing our planet and its not even slowly anymore.
Sure, we start all these campaigns, such as the most recent one to ban straws, but thats not going to solve our big problems. We need to switch over our fuel sources, reevaluate how were expending energy, and combat this problem head on. Corporate greed from big oil companies, lobbyists, and any other higher up who is financially benefitting from this would rather watch all of us die slowly as long as they can line their pockets better. However, despite all of this, I still believe that we can and are slowly trying to change. We just have to start small. In order for climate change to be solved, the issue must be viewed as economic and not political or emotional. Fundamentally, climate change is the culmination of negative externalities inherent to a modern industrial society. These negative externalities need to be properly studied and addressed. An example of this is the carbon tax. Gregory Mankiw, a respected Republican economist proposed this idea to George Bush when he served as his advisor. The idea is simple when cigarettes are bad so the government taxed them and now people smoke less of them, the same logic applies to the burning of fossil fuels. He supports having a carbon tax that steadily increases over time. Corporations would ure out environmentally sustainable solutions that would also be economically viable. Climate change is increasingly the largest problem facing humanity. It will exponentially increase in danger each year until it fully drives humans to extinction.
