Weeks 1-2 saw Brady throw for 201 yards and one touchdown on average. Injuries have destroyed his wide receiver group, Rob Gronkowski’s retirement has had no effect on the tight ends, and the Buccaneers are throwing significantly fewer passes than they did during Brady’s first two seasons in Tampa Bay.
Green Bay Packers vs Tom Brady
After missing Week 2, Julio Jones (knee) missed this week due to Mike Evans’ suspension, Chris Godwin’s hamstring injury, and Julio Jones’ DNP on Wednesday and Thursday. Brady will presumably be left with a three-wide formation consisting of Breshad Perriman, Scotty Miller, and Russell Gage in the slot.
The Buccaneers have been relying heavily on Leonard Fournette since September, and their pass rate is 25th overall. However, after streaming Carson Wentz for Brady last week, I’d much rather have choices like Kirk Cousins and Jared Goff this Sunday. I’m still holding Brady in season-long leagues in expectation of Evans, Godwin, and Jones returning.
Through Week 2, Brady is the QB30 in fantasy. And as we all know, his legs don’t add anything to the box score. With 42 points, Packers-Bucs is one of the week’s lowest point totals.
Rodgers hasn’t performed much better in the realm of fantasy football than Tom Brady, who is the overall QB29 after two weeks. In addition, like Brady, Rodgers’ wideout room appears to be severely understaffed and injured. Christian Watson (hamstring), Sammy Watkins (hamstring), and Allen Lazard (ankle) were all reduced to DNP on Thursday.
Two weeks into the post-Davante Adams era, Green Bay ranks 21st in pass rate over expectation, and Weeks 1-2 saw Rodgers average 214.5 passing yards per game with just two touchdowns.
Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon, this offense’s premier backfield duo, are the engine. Additionally, the Buccaneers shut down the passing games of the Cowboys and Saints the first two weeks, ranking second in fantasy points given to quarterbacks, first in pass-defense DVOA, and second in adjusted sack rate. The 42 points scored in this contest are one of the lowest on the Week 3 schedule, as was already established. Rodgers is only a backup quarterback 2.
Two weeks into the season, the Broncos have yet to score in the red zone. The only other team without a score in the end zone so far is the dreadful Seahawks. Wilson, who is the QB20 in fantasy, had a dreadful Week 2 performance against the Texans, completing just 45.2% of his passes for 219 yards, one touchdown, and one interception at home.
The new home audience, which Wilson was playing in front of for the first time, was already jeering the team. Coach Nathaniel Hackett, who got his first head coaching position by riding Aaron Rodgers’ coattails, might be in over his head as a rookie play-caller.
Wilson shouldn’t be starting against the Niners if he couldn’t perform well against the Texans at home. In terms of fantasy points awarded to quarterbacks, adjusted sack rate, and pass-defense DVOA, San Francisco ranks third, fourth, and seventh, respectively.
Wilson might also be without Jerry Jeudy (ribs, shoulder), who was declared not present on Wednesday and Thursday. Although the Broncos are too good to be in this rut, playing in a game with a 45-point total against a slow-moving 49ers club doesn’t exactly appear to be favorable for fantasy points.
